We Didn’t Have Smart Phones, Air Pods, or Social Media… We Just Had a Great Time Together.
That’s a tradition worth continuing.
In 1994 Slim Days started out as a mere college house party with a band playing in the basement. Over the course of the next 3 years Slim Days turned into 5 more concerts with the last event being held in 1997. It was an all-day event featuring 11 bands, a celebrity MC, some of the best shirts, and thousands of dollars donated to charity.
What began as reminiscence among a few old friends about the good old days, quickly gathered momentum and evolved into an organized effort to plan and execute a reunion involving a circle of friends that formed lifelong bonds during their time at Chadron State College (CSC). One past event stood out above all others – Slim Days. Slim Days began in 1994 and was a social gathering that featured live music from some of our favorite local bands around CSC at the time. As planning began, we thought as long as we are reuniting old friends, why not literally ‘get the band back together’ and reunite the bands!
Receiving commitments from three original Slim Days bands, we knew we might just have a shot at turning some heads and attracting a good deal of the original Slim Days attendees – and with community involvement and a little luck – a new generation of attendees. Ultimately, the goal of Slim Days has always been to have fun, celebrate friendship, promote live entertainment, and support great causes. These are four objectives that we want to see continue far, far into the future for CSC students, alumni, and the surrounding communities.
WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE FUTURE OF SLIM DAYS?
Since its inception three decades ago, one of the primary goals of Slim Days was to support local charities and/or causes. Profit was never a driving force; rather, our focus has always been on covering expenses such as band fees, production costs, and – if possible – some commemorative t-shirts. Any funds above and beyond those expenses were deemed surplus to our needs, compelling us to channel them to local causes that could put the funds to good use. For this group of proud CSC alumni, we aspire to leave behind a lasting legacy in the form of a scholarship fund.
There is a profound appeal in the notion that future recipients of this scholarship at CSC may query “Slim Days Scholarship” and feel a connection to the initial circle of friends. Benefitting not only from the financial support but also from the enduring bonds of a friendship forged in the late 1900’s. Moreover, we want to assist recipients on their path to create their own circle of lifelong friends and memories with ties to CSC, thus perpetuating the spirit of generosity and community that defines our collective ethos.
Our primary objectives are to foster a fun-filled atmosphere for an evening of live music, as well as offering financial aid to deserving CSC students. Community backing plays a pivotal role in our pursuit of these goals. Additionally, sponsors and volunteers serve as crucial pillars of support. If you have affiliations with CSC or conduct business in Chadron or Western Nebraska, we earnestly invite you to consider extending your support to Slim Days. Monetary donations are accepted and we offer several sponsorship tiers. Sponsors can choose to remain anonymous or we can promote your business as a Slim Days sponsor through our various marketing channels.
